Winter is upon us, which means, for some of us, the desire to do things outside will drop along with the temperature. If you’re such a person, and you enjoy the metaphorical warmth of a good story, there will be plenty of movies and television shows to keep you warm.
To help keep track of the things coming your way, and help you get caught up or prepared for these releases, we've prepared a list of some of the big movies and television shows coming out between December and February, and some library materials that will enhance the viewing experience.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (coming to Disney+)
This Star Wars show will appeal to fans of classic ‘80s cinema like The Goonies or current popular shows like Stranger Things because it sends several young kids on an interstellar adventure. It’s set in the same time period as The Mandalorian. If you want to see what that world is like, Seasons 1-2 are available on Blu-ray.

Win or Lose (coming to Disney+)
This is Pixar's first-ever television series. Each episode follows different characters as they prepare for a championship softball game. It looks to have that signature blend of humor, heart, and stylized animation that Pixar is famous for. If you want to see what else the studio can do with smaller stories and a multitude of subjects check out this third volume of their collected short films.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim (coming to theaters)
This anime fantasy film set 183 years before The Lord of the Rings saga delves deep into the history of the “Horse Lords” of Rohan. If you want to see the Rohirrim in action, we suggest watching Peter Jackson's film trilogy. They figure prominently in the second film, and play a large role in the third.
Kraven (coming to theaters)
The latest Spider-Man-related film from Sony puts the spotlight on the titular Russian hunter. He's played by Aaron Taylor and Russell Crowe plays his crime lord father. A great way to get to know or get reacquainted with Kraven is to check out one of his best comic stories, Kraven's Last Hunt.

Mufasa: The Lion King (coming to theaters)
This Barry Jenkins directed sequel and prequel to Disney's 2019 live action The Lion King feature film delves into the past of the titular character and shows how he and Scar were friends before they were rivals. The first film is available for checkout on both DVD and Blu-ray.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (coming to theaters)
In this film, Sonic, his allies, and past foes must join forces to combat a new adversary, the villainous Shadow the Hedgehog played by Keanu Reeves. If you're looking to immerse yourself in a grand Sonic adventure before the film that brings you face-to-face with Shadow, check out Sonic Colors Ultimate for Playstation 4.

Nosferatu (coming to theaters)
This reimagining of F.W. Murnau's classic 1922 silent, unauthorized adaptation of Dracula promises to be a big, bold, and scary film. If you want to check out the original movie it's available on DVD and Kanopy.
A Complete Unknown (coming to theaters)
Director James Mangold is no stranger to movies about pivotal moments in American music. So, it's no surprise he's at the helm of this film that chronicles Bob Dylan (Timothee Chalamet)'s electric performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. If you're interested in the history of the festival and want to see some performances by Dylan and other legendary performers, check out the documentary, Festival: Folk Music at Newport, 1963-1966.

WWE's flagship weekly show moves to its new home on Netflix with an episode promising to feature some of the biggest names in professional wrestling. Leigh Whanell, the director of 2020's The Invisible Man, continues his contemporary updates of Universal's classic monsters with this film starring Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott, and Sam Jaeger. If you want to check out the original Universal film, the library has the DVD in its collection.

Mickey 17 (coming to theaters)
After multiple delays, Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon Ho's adaptation of Edward Ashton's sci-fi novel, Mickey 7, finally hits theaters on January 31, 2025. If you want to read the novel about space exploration and cloning before you see the film, the book and its sequel, Antimatter Blues, are available for checkout.

Captain America: Brave New World (coming to theaters)
This film plunges new Captain America, Sam Wilson, into a conspiracy involving a former super soldier, the Hulk's old nemesis turned U.S. President "Thunderbolt" Ross (who just might be crimson version of his old foe), and a criminal cabal known as the Serpent Society. Readers curious about Sam Wilson's most recent clash with the Serpent Society in comics should check out Captain America: Sam Wilson Vol.1 available via hoopla.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (coming to Peacock)
This film finds Renee Zellwegger returning to the titular role and dealing with a whole host of new problems and comedic situations. The Helen Fielding book it's based on is available as an e-book and an e-audiobook via Libby.

The Monkey (coming to theaters)
Director Osgood Perkins follows up this year's Longlegs with this adaptation of a Stephen King story which finds two brothers dealing with the creepy, titular toy and a series of gruesome murders. The story is part of the Skeleton Crew anthology, which is available for checkout in print form.
