3 Things to Know about Eating at the Library

Some visits to the library are quick trips and some are all-day affairs. If you here for a long haul, there’s a good chance you’re going to get hungry at some point. The good news is you don’t have to leave the library to satiate your hunger. You can eat snacks and even full meals here. We just ask that you do these three things:

1. Meet the delivery person at the door.

It’s totally fine to have food delivered to the library. Please be at the front door to meet your delivery person when they arrive. That way, they can move on to their next delivery and you can get your food right away.

Our Check Out and Information Desk staff aren’t able to leave the desk to find you and they sometimes get awful hungry, so if a desperate delivery driver leaves your food with them your fries or a couple slices of pizza might not be there when you come to grab it (we kid, we kid!).

2. Make sure you’re prepared.

You’re allowed to have food in the library, but we’re not equipped as a restaurant. That means we don’t have silverware if you forget yours. If you’re getting a delivery you might want to request utensils be brought with your food, and check when it arrives.

If you’re bringing a meal to eat later, make sure you pack something to eat with. If you do forget your napkins, know that we have paper towels on hand for the next thing we’re going to ask of you...

3. Clean up after yourself and be careful around the materials.

Food stains and spills can permanently damage a book, so we ask that if you’re going to have a meal around them that you please be careful. When you’re done, make sure you wipe up any crumbs or bits of food and dispose of everything in a waste basket.

Pro-tip: large containers like pizza boxes will easily fit in our big trash cans located by the printing area in the Teen Space and by the back booths in the Children’s Library.
