4 Kid-friendly Ways to Stream with Your Library Card

The library has you covered for those dog days of summer when the indoors is starting to sound pretty good. Maybe a book isn’t quite hitting either and you’ve exhausted all of your usual streaming apps. We’ve highlighted four resources for TV, movies, games and interactive stories that will excite and entertain kiddos of all ages.

1. Bookflix

Bookflix offers dozens of interactive animated storybooks that incorporate a variety of bonus features. You have the option to either watch and listen to the story or to read it on your own with games and fun facts mixed in. All you have to do is use the link on our website and provide your library card number and PIN (the cardholder’s 8-digit birth date). Also available in Spanish.

2. PBS Kids

Watch full episodes of your favorite PBS shows. From long-running classics like Arthur and Sesame Street to newer titles like Elinor Wonders Why and Daniel Tiger, there are quite a few programs streaming on PBS Kids. You’ve also got movies, animated storybooks, and games which are sure to offer hours of wholesome and enriching fun. This resource does not require a Canton Public Library card to access.

3. Kanopy

You may already know about Kanopy and hoopla, but did you know that both have kid-friendly settings? For those who haven’t experienced Kanopy yet, this movie and TV streaming service gives adult users a set number of credits to spend per month. The difference with Kanopy Kids is that there is no limit. Once you log in with your library card and switch your account to Kanopy Kids, you have immediate access to a wide variety of kids’ programming. You will need a Canton Public Library card to create an account.

4. hoopla

This e-media app is like Kanopy and also has a "kids mode" that guides users on age-appropriate content, but instead of spending credits you can check out digital items like you’re at the library. You can also find e-books, e-audiobooks, games and music on hoopla—and there are plenty of kids' movies, graphic novels and storybook read-alongs to choose from. This service requires a library card to log in.
