Haunted Happenings

It is time once again for fall hijinks and we’ve put together a list of places for you to visit in 2024 that range from cozy to chilling. We’ve split these into two categories: relaxing and family-friendly fall fun, and more ominous options for thrill-seeking older kids and adults. Some are free, while others require paid admission for some or all activities.


Chill Thrills and Happy Haunts for All Ages

Wiard’s OrchardVisitors can pick apples and pumpkins or enjoy fresh cider and donuts at the mill. Additional activities include wagon rides, a corn maze and a petting farm. Adults may be interested in the haunted attraction Night Terrors. Tickets range in price from $18 to $26 per person, with no charge for children under 2.

Plymouth OrchardsThis orchard has most of the traditional activities with cider, donuts and fresh-baked pies all at the Red Shed market. There are also hale bay mazes, wagon rides and live music on select days. Entry and parking are free.

Apple Charlie’s Cider Mill – Cider mill known for their apples, cider, donuts and pies. Guests can pick apples and pumpkins as well. There is also a haunted barn attraction for older teens and adults to enjoy. Entry and parking are free.

DeBuck’s Family Farm – Hosts year-round seasonal festivities including their Fall Festival. There are dozens of activities for families including a massive corn maze, photo-ops, giant corn hole and wagon rides. They also have fresh cider and donuts for those just looking to wind down. Tickets range in price from $11.95 to $15.95 per person. Season passes are also available.

Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo – Fun for everyone! Experience the zoo with a different seasonal theme each weekend. Activities include face-painting, ‘trick-or-treating' stations and movies screenings. Ticket prices vary by age, with discounts available. Some activities may require an additional fee. Be sure to check the website for dates and times.

Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village – In October, the village is specially decorated for family-friendly frights, with traditional seasonal scares in the evenings. The experience is included with price of admission, which ranges from $29.25 to $39, with no charge for children 4 and under. Visitors can take a haunted train ride or add special Hallowe’en dining packages at select Village restaurants for an additional charge.  Be sure to check the website for dates and times. 


Out-there Scares for Older Teens and Adults

Redford Theater – The Redford has announced a full slate of events and horror movie screenings for the month of October. Some are family-friendly, but many are suitable for adults only. Highlights include Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) in 3D on October 18, a 35mm film screening of A Clockwork Orange (1971) on October 19 and It Follows (2014) on October 25—which was partially filmed at the Redford Theater and around Metro Detroit. Movie tickets are $5 to $7 and can be purchased online or at the box office.

Detroit History Tours – A series of weekend tours in October that highlight haunted locations in Detroit. Last year the tour was $58 per person and covered more than three hours of potentially haunted sites with dark and mysterious pasts. Check the website for a calendar of events

Hush Haunted Attraction – This year, one of the most popular haunted attractions in Southeastern Michigan will feature four different scary experiences and several "secret” bars along the way. The event runs from September 29 to November 4, 2024. Admission ranges in price from $19.99 to $32.99, with upgrades available.

Deranged Haunted Attraction – A haunted house experience that started in Canton nearly 10 years ago and is now located in nearby Romulus. This year the fictitious town of Covensfeld is staging a mayoral election which is sure to be full of scary scandal and “witch hunts.” Tickets range from $20 to $42. 

Eloise Asylum – The infamous asylum from the late 19th century to the early 20th century was recently converted into an event space and hosts an annual haunted attraction, as well as paranormal tours and escape rooms. These ticketed experiences vary in price.
