Here’s the Perfect Option for Giving Tuesday

The ninth annual Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2024—the perfect time to think about giving to the Canton Community Foundation. Giving Tuesday was created to be a global generosity movement to unleash the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. The Canton Community Foundation was founded in 1989 and offers many different opportunities to transform your community here in the Canton area.

Unlike many foundations, the Canton Community Foundation (CCF) offers a wide variety of funds set up by other nonprofits, businesses and organizations.

"Anyone can donate to any of those funds, or you can even set up one of your own," says CCF Director Beth Meade. "We support children's organizations, funds that support seniors, a large women's giving circle and many more. We also manage the Canton Public Library Endowment Fund. With all these funds to choose from, no matter what your interest is, you're sure to find a fund you are passionate about and wish to support."

The Plymouth-Canton community benefits from the CCF in so many ways. Some of the organizations CCF helps fund include the Plymouth Foster Care Closet, First Step—a domestic violence shelter, the Canton Block Program, Living and Learning Enrichment Center, the Plymouth Canton Literacy Council, Plymouth Canton Music Boosters, Camp A.B.L.E.— a summer camp for disabled children, Canton Police Benevolence Fund, the Canton Public Library and many more. Visit their website or a full list of organizations to choose from.

"Some people really like what CCF is doing, but they're not finding a fund that exactly fits their giving desires," adds Meade. "We have a solution for that! Just come in and talk to us, and we'll help you set up your own fund. That way, you can help the community in a way that's meaningful to you, and others who feel the same way can contribute to your fund within the Foundation."

Another way CCF supports the community is through its scholarship program.

"We give out a couple of hundred scholarships every year to students within the Plymouth/Canton area," said Meade. "Students can use these funds for their continuing education in several ways. There are scholarships for colleges and scholarships for those who are going into the trades. There are also scholarships for people going back to school after being in the workforce for a number of years."

The Canton Community Foundation is a 501 C3 public charity, so every donation is tax-deductible. You will get a gift receipt with any donation you make. People can donate with a check or credit card. Also, if you have an IRA that requires you to take a minimum distribution or your own family foundation that requires you to take a certain percentage of your assets and donate it back to the community, CCF can help you with that.

After you've given thanks for what you have on Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday is the perfect time for thinking of others and how you can support your community. There are so many ways to give your support within the CCF. Just visit the CCF website and choose the fund that feels right to you.
