STEAM: Play with Your Food

Food is so delicious. Did you know food can also be so much fun? Well, with a sprinkle of imagination and maybe even some actual sprinkles, you can turn any meal into an adventure!

Mashed potatoes are tasty and very versatile. Not only are they delicious with butter and gravy, but they can make the coolest volcano. Try stacking your mashies into a tall pile and put a bit of a crater into the top. Pour your gravy in the crater and watch it flow down your potato volcano. For added fun, you could plant some broccoli trees, dinosaur chicken nuggets and shredded lettuce grass around your plate to enhance your scene.

Bread is another fun food that you most likely have around the house. Grab some of your favorite cookie cutters and make cool shapes for your sandwiches! You can even use the cookie cutters on slices of cheese or to make small shapes on cucumbers.

Rice comes in many varieties but sticky rice is the best one for cool food creations. Use it to make snowmen, penguins, polar bears and bugs. Since the rice sticks together pretty well, your creation will keep its shape and you can decorate your creation with carrots for noses, pretzel sticks for arms, olives for eyes, red or yellow peppers for legs and apple slices for wings.
