Did you miss storytime? Perhaps it is just one of those days when you need a boost with your little ones. Fret not. We have gathered some storytime resources for you at home. Follow our steps below or mix-and-match for the ultimate storytime experience.
Today’s Theme: Baking
1. Energize With a Song
Start your storytime by singing "If You’d Like to Read a Book" (sing to the tune of "If You’re Happy and You Know It").
If you’d like to read a book, raise your hand.
If you’d like to read a book, raise your hand.
If you’d like to read a book, listen up and take a look.
If you’d like to read a book, raise your hand.
Tip: when singing “listen up”, point to your ears; when singing “take a look”, point to your eyes.
2. Activity: Make a Printable and Recite a Rhyme
Print out this sheet of Five Little Cupcakes and color each cupcake a different color and cut them out. Use magnets to attach each cupcake onto a clean metal baking sheet, then recite the following rhyme.
Down around the corner at the bakery shop;
Were five little cupcakes with frosting on top;
Along came someone with a nickel to pay;
They bought the blue cupcake and took it away. (Take one cupcake off the baking sheet.)
Repeat the rhyme with each color cupcake until all cupcakes are gone.
3. Read a Book About Baking
4. Sing a Goodbye Song
See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to "Skinnamarink".
