3. Activity: Find Community Helpers

Years ago, when Mr. Rogers was a boy and saw scary things in the news, his mother would tell him, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” The most obvious helpers are firemen, policemen, doctors, nurses and teachers, but there are many more.

It can be a fun exercise to come up with a list of all the helpers you can find in these books and in your own community. You can even challenge your child to find different ways to be a helper—turning out the lights, cleaning up, setting the table and working together.

4. Sing a Goodbye Song

See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to "Skinnamarink."
