Did you miss storytime? Perhaps it is just one of those days when you need a little boost with your little ones. Fret not. We have gathered some storytime resources for you at home. Follow our steps below or mix-and-match for the ultimate storytime experience.
Today's Theme: Octo-berrific
1. Energize with a Song
Start your storytime by singing “We Clap and Sing Hello” (sing to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell”).
We clap and sing hello
We clap and sing hello
With our friends at storytime
We clap and sing hello!
Repeat with the following verses:
We wave and sing hello…
We stomp and say hello…
You can also try making up your own verses to sing and act out.
2. Read a Fall-themed Book
3. Activity: Real-life Letter Hunt
Turn letter-hunting into a fun game while you're out and about. Try spotting words that start with or contain the letter 'O' on billboards, restaurant menus, labels at the grocery store and signs at the library.
A tip for parents and caregivers: when kids find letters in their daily life, it helps them get ready to read. The more they see letters, the better they’ll remember their shapes and names. Realizing that letters are everywhere makes reading into a fun and important experience.
4. Sing a Goodbye Song
See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to “Skinnamarink.”
