Thorndyke’s Portal to Lucha Libre Mascaros

Hey Kids,

I’ve been learning a lot about Lucha libre—a style of professional wrestling from Mexico. You’ll see wrestlers moving fast and doing a lot of high-flying moves in this style of wrestling. It looks like it could be a lot of fun!

While I’m not sure we would be able to do these moves (and probably shouldn’t try them at home), we can make our very own luchador paper masks. Luchador masks are colorful masks with great significance that wrestlers wear. Grab some crafts and follow the steps below to create your own colorful mask.

Your friend,

Thorndyke

Materials

  • A4 or letter-size cardstock
  • Crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • Elastic string
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glitter glue (optional)

Instructions

  1. Print out a template of a Luchador mask. You can find a link to the example here at FirstPalette.com
  2. Draw a mask design using your pencil, then color your mask using the colors of your choosing. You can use glitter glue to decorate your mask if you wish.
  3. Cut holes where the dotted lines are: the eyes, bottom of the nose and the mouth. This way you’ll be able to see and breathe in your fantastic new mask!
  4. Use a hole-puncher to make holes on the mask's sides near your ears.
  5. Tie the ends of an elastic string around the holes. This will help you wear your mask securely.
  6. Enjoy wearing your colorful, fun new mask!
