When Will the Construction End?

Road work can seem endless in Michigan, especially in the spring and summer. Construction projects are necessary to maintain our roads, but they can also throw a wrench into any plans you have of arriving at your destination on time.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) maintains a list of construction projects on all state roads. MDOT's Mi Drive website can help you stay on top of traffic and plan around future delays.

To see projects that may affect your commute, use the “filter” to narrow the list by route, county and closure type. Results will show the extent of the closures, as well as projected end dates and even detours.

MDOT also has a map view that allows you to enter a city name or ZIP code to zoom in on a specific area. The projects will appear as highlighted lines along various roads, color-coded depending on how much they impact the use of that road:

  • Green is for minimally disruptive work, such as shoulder closures.
  • Yellow indicates one or more lane closures where traffic can still pass through.
  • Red signifies a total road closure.
